“Caring for [our]selves is not self-indulgence, it is self preservation, and that is an act of political warfare ”
— Audre Lorde
Peaks of Colour is a Peak District-based nature-for-healing club by and for people of colour only.
Through our Soma Sessions and seasonal Walkshops we curate creative, holistic and collaborative spaces, which explore alternative routes to healing and justice for those with lived experience of racial and gendered trauma.
⁕
Grounded in Black Feminist politics, abolitionist principles, and nature-allied practice, our work sits on the intersections of multiple forms of systemic oppression: racial justice, gendered justice, land justice and environmental justice.
⁕
Capitalism and colonialism have forced us to disassociate from our bodies, and disconnect from the land. We believe this segregation is no accident. Our oppressors would rather see us traumatised, disenfranchised and burnt-out individuals than a healed and mobilised collective who feel a mutual reciprocity with nature. This requires a collective reimagining of what it means to be in relationship.
⁕
A survivor-led initiative, Peaks of Colour’s work is not only concerned by what we do, but how we do the work. We see our work as a constant experiment, exploring ways of organising that are regenerative, sustainable and trauma-informed.
